According to media reports, the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) has recalled batches of frozen pork from Netherland from the market.
The move was due to a Salmonella outbreak linked to a slaughterhouse in the Netherlands. AVA is working with importers to remove the implicated frozen pork from the shelves.
The European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed had issued an alert of a food borne outbreak of Salmonella Goldcoast, triggering AVA’s recall.
To prevent bacterial infection from Salmonella bacteria, which can be found in raw meat, including pork, consumers are urged to cook all raw meat thoroughly.
AVA also stressed the importance of good food hygiene and food safety practices.
These include washing hands before handling ready-to-eat food, before eating and after going to the toilet; separating raw meat from vegetables, fruit, cooked and ready-to-eat food, as well as using separate sets of knives and cutting board for raw and cooked food.
