Giving an update early this morning on the death toll in Israel caused since yesterday by the sudden and full-scale rocket attacks by Hamas from the Palestinian territory of Gaza, the national military Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that at least 200 people had died and more than 1,000 were injured by the 3,000+ rockets fired.
In his address to the nation yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said emphatically that his country was “at war” and vowed that “the enemy will pay an unprecedented price”.
The IDF update this morning said that more than 20 communities in southern Israel had been “invaded by Hamas terrorist operatives”. IDF also shared an update about a hospital coming under rocket fire.
The military shared images of the devastated Barzilai Medical Center in southern Israel. Fortunately, the hospital director and staff had escaped along with all the patients before the rocket hit the building.
Meanwhile, social networks are now rife with images and videos blaming both Israel and Hamas for mutual atrocities — but these could very well be spreading misinformation. For instance, a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by one Hananya Naftali showed an alleged hostage situation, with an Israeli family being held hostage by Hamas. However, the video appears to be fake, as there is no mention of its origin or who filmed the video and how it reached the X user.
