In 2019, the overall top destinations for Singapore travellers continue to be Malaysia, Japan, and Australia – but there are signs that uncommon destinations are gaining traction.
The results of fintech startup YouTrip's Singapore Overseas Spending Study 2019 revealed that Gen Y and Gen X travellers are visiting off the beaten track places.
In 2019, the top three uncommon destinations for Gen Y (23-38 years old) travellers are Luxembourg, Peru and Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Gen X (39-54 years old) travellers favoured Mexico, Slovakia and Montenegro.
YouTrip's report predicts that for 2020, Chile, Romania and Mongolia are the up-and-coming destinations. These three places have seen an average 76 per cent growth in the number of unique YouTrip visitors, compared to an average 42 per cent growth of other off the beaten destinations.
The Singapore Overseas Spending Study 2019 was conducted by YouTrip between September 2018 and August 2019, through collection of consented data from a randomised sample size of 100,000 Singaporean YouTrip users aged 20 to 60 years old.
