The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought a comprehensive report from the Punjab government after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cavalcade was stuck on a flyover near Piareana village on Ferozepur-Moga road following a blockade by farmers.
The PM landed in Bathinda today morning from where he was scheduled to visit National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala on a chopper, but due to bad weather conditions, he proceeded to travel by road after DGP Punjab Police confirmed security arrangements.
Around 30 km away from National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, when Modi’s convoy reached a flyover on Ferozepur-Moga road, scores of protestors blocked the route.
“The PM’s schedule and travel plan were communicated well in advance to Punjab Government. As per procedure, they have to make necessary arrangements for logistics, security as well as keep a contingency plan ready. Also in view of the contingency plan Punjab government has to deploy additional security to secure any movement by road, which were clearly not deployed,” the MHA said in a statement.
Modi was scheduled to inaugurate development projects of over INR 42,000, crore including 100-bedded PGI satellite centre at Ferozepur.
