Set against the backdrop of the 2019 Pulwama Attack by Pakistan and the retaliatory air strikes conducted by India in the neighbouring country, Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone Fighter — hailed as India’s first aerial action movie — is soaring high. On the second day of its release, the film recorded a significant jump in its domestic box-office collection.
Coinciding with the January 26 (Republic Day) holiday, Fighter’s second day saw the film rake up a whopping INR 39 crore (USD 4,691,922), after an impressive INR 24.60 crore (USD 2,959,520) on its first day.
After much anticipation and hype, the film was released in theatres on January 25.
With that, the total collection of the film has now mounted to INR 63.60 crore (USD 7,651,442). Fighter is expected to go past the INR 100 crore (USD 12,030,570) mark by the end of the week.
Makers of Fighter decided to release the film on a Thursday, instead of Friday, which is usually the norm, to bank on the extended weekend of Republic Day, and they seem to have succeeded with their strategy.
It is also the first big release of 2024, and the fact that it is laced with copious amounts of patriotism, made it a perfect Republic Day release.
Fighter also stars actors Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover and Akshay Oberoi in key roles. The film has received rave reviews from the audience and is going strong in theatres with no major competition.
It is to be noted that Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which was also helmed by Fighter director Siddharth Anand, released on January 25 last year, and the film had earned over INR 1,000 crore (USD 120,305,700) at the box office.
