IIT Kanpur professor Sameer Khandekar died after he collapsed while delivering a lecture at the university after suffering cardiac arrest on Friday (December 22, 2023).
He was 55.
He was delivering an address at an alumni meet event at the IIT Kanpur auditorium.
As per a report published in India Today, Khandekar was talking about ways to maintain good health and one of his last words to the students was, “Take care of your health.”
The professor was rushed to hospital and was declared dead.
The professor’s son, who studies at Cambridge University, will conduct the last rites of his father, according to people associated with Khandekar, the Indian news channel reported.

The news of my friend Prof. Sameer Khandekar’s (Professor in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kanpur) sudden and very untimely passing has left us in deep shock and sadness. A cherished colleague always full of energy and enthusiasm. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear friend.”
