Rajampet sub-divisional police officer N Sudhakar said Anjaneya Prasad arrived from Kuwait recently and beat his physically challenged relative P Anjaneyulu (59) to death with an iron rod for allegedly sexually abusing his daughter.

“Anjaneya Prasad came to India in the first week of December and killed Anjaneyulu in the intervening night of December 6 and 7 when the latter was sleeping outside his home,” Sudhakar told PTI, about the incident which occurred at Obulavaripalli in Annamayya district.

As per a report by The Statesman, Prasad and his wife Chandrakala are both employed in Kuwait. While their 12-year-old daughter initially lived with her grandparents, she later went to stay with Chandrakala’s sister, Lakshmi, and her family.

It was there that the 12-year-old was molested by Lakshmi’s father-in-law. When the victim spoke up about this sexual abuse, her aunt told her to remain silent. Later, Lakshmi called her sister and asked her to take her daughter away due to the prevailing tensions in the family.

Once with her parents in Kuwait, the girl narrated her ordeal, leading to her father’s trip to India and the subsequent murder.

Following the murder, Sudhakar said Prasad had returned to Kuwait and released a video message, confessing to having committed the crime as the police allegedly failed to take action over his daughter’s complaint.

Meanwhile, police registered a murder case against Prasad and are on the lookout for his arrest.

The Times of India quoted Obulavaripalli police sub-inspector P Mahesh as saying that contrary to the father’s claims, no complaint was made by the parents.

The cop also said there’s a criminal conspiracy behind the murder and several others are involved in the act. He vowed to “bring to light all the facts”.

The police also questioned the motive behind the video release. He said if Prasad intended to surrender, he should not have returned to Kuwait.
