Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a warm welcome by the people of Indian community on his arrival at Singapore today after visiting Malaysia and Indonesia. Holding Indian and Singaporean flags and banners ‘Singapore welcomes Modi’, people lined up outside Singapore’s Fullerton Hotel to catch a glimpse of India’s popular Prime Minister. Earlier, Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, HE Jawed Ashraf along with senior officials welcomed the Indian Prime Minister. The visit is considered to be a crucial one for the Act East Policy. Apart from meeting the top leadership of Singapore including President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, PM Modi will also deliver the keynote address at the 18th Shangri-La Dialogue.
Prime Minister Modi later visited India-Singapore Enterprise and Innovation Exhibition and interacted with a group of enablers and innovators. He was accompanied with Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong. This exhibition was part of the day-long startup event 'InSpreneur 2.0' in which over 500 participants focussed on frontier technologies of artificial intelligence, blockchain, data analytics, machine learning, fintech and cyber security along with innovation for social impact in areas of water, sanitation, health, education, smart cities and energy.
