India Energy Week 2025 set to address global energy challenges amid India’s growing role

The third edition of India Energy Week, the country’s flagship energy event, will take place at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi from 11 to 14 February 2025.

IEW will “convene the global energy industry to address the most pressing challenges facing the sector, offering an influential platform for collaboration and innovation that will shape the future of energy worldwide”, stated an official report.

It is also timely, given India is looking to drive a quarter of global energy growth over the next two decades. However, the country — one of the fastest growing large economies in the world — is facing a unique energy challenge. While India is projected to contribute to the growing oil demand in the aforementioned period, currently, it imports more than 85 percent of its crude oil and about 50 percent of natural gas requirements, according to Gurmeet Singh, the Director General of Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry.

FIPI, alongside DMG Events, are the joint organisers of IEW 2025, which is taking place under the patronage of India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

“India Energy Week will showcase the nation’s pioneering model for a low-carbon growth economy. The event will highlight India’s commitment to energy access, security, affordability and sustainability, featuring innovative solutions, ambitious decarbonisation targets and significant investment opportunities. By fostering global collaboration, India Energy Week will demonstrate India’s leadership in driving measurable progress towards a cleaner energy future for all,” the report stated.

Over 70,000 energy professionals will take part in the four-day event. IEW will comprise Strategic Conference, Technical Conference, Exhibition, Executive Club, and Gala Dinner. Both the conferences have been further divided into three themed stages.

Strategic Conference theme stages:

  • The Collaboration Stage
  • The Resilience Stage
  • The Transition Stage

Technical Conference theme stages:

  • The Future Energy Mix Stage
  • The Supply Chain, Logistics and Operational Excellence Stage
  • The Carbon Reduction and Electrification Stage

“Strategic Conference will convene global energy leaders to chart a path forward, with discussions centering on overcoming critical bottlenecks, securing investments, decarbonising industries and fostering international partnerships to accelerate the energy transition,” the report stated.

“The conference will highlight India’s commitment, progress and ability to catalyse global change by establishing a bespoke, low-carbon economic model that ensures energy access, affordability and security for all.

“The sessions revolve around seven key themes — Collaboration, Resilience, Transition, Capacity, Digital Frontiers, Innovation and Leadership — common threads that unite discussions and enhance outcomes. Delivered across three stages, the strategic content will drive meaningful change, enable progress and help shape the global energy narrative,” it said.

Speaking about the event, the country’s Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri, said, “India Energy Week is being held at a crucial juncture in the global energy sector, where it aims to effectively address the pressing global energy challenges of ensuring energy availability, affordability, and sustainability while prioritising energy security.”

TotalEnergies lends support to India ahead of IEW 2025

Meanwhile, Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, one of the companies taking part in IEW, said TotalEnergies is committed to supporting India’s transition from coal to cleaner energy sources.

In an exclusive interview with Energy Connects ahead of IEW 2025, Pouyanné said, “As we celebrate 100 years of TotalEnergies, taking part in Indian Energy Week reflects our company’s 30-year involvement in India, where we are active in a wide range of sectors, including natural gas and renewables, LPG for domestic and commercial use, lubricants and special fluids, batteries, and technical and digital solutions.”

“Given the size and potential of the market, India is the right place to implement our energy transition strategy based on two pillars: renewables and natural gas.

“Furthermore, India’s goals of achieving 500GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and increasing the share of gas in the energy mix from 6 percent to 15 percent align with TotalEnergies’ objectives.

“In renewables, India is gradually liberalising its power market, allowing us to selectively grow our merchant exposure in line with our value-creating business model. India is also playing an increasing role as a state-of-the-art competitive supplier base for us, whether for equipment such as photovoltaic modules, EPC contracts, or digital services,” he said.

TotalEnergies, Pouyanné said, will be “investing in natural gas infrastructure and renewable energy projects, ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy supply for the future”.
