India Energy Week: India, Singapore join hands to establish green energy corridor; MoU signed to set up green hydrogen facility

With less than a month left for the start of India Energy Week 2025, the Indian government’s flagship energy event, the country’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday, January 17 that it’s partnering with Singapore on establishing a green energy corridor.

India is looking at boosting cooperation in areas like green hydrogen, green shipping, semiconductor and manufacturing, the MEA further stated.

This is in line with India’s agenda in the upcoming event, scheduled to take place in New Delhi from February 11 to 14.

The announcement was also made during on the ongoing visit of Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to India.

Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) in the MEA said there is already work going on for setting up a green hydrogen corridor between the eastern part of India and Singapore.

The green corridor includes a link from Tuticorin and another from Paradip in Odisha, Mazumdar said.

Green hydrogen facility in Odisha

President Shanmugaratnam’s also visited the eastern Indian state of Odisha during his 5-day visit to India. At least eight MoUs were signed between several Singaporean organisation and the state, one of which deals with the setting up of a green hydrogen facility.

An MoU was signed between Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL) and Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Limited (SGHIPL) of Singapore to explore the development of a production facility for green hydrogen and its derivatives, with an anticipated production capacity of 720,000 metric tonnes per annum.

The facility, to be strategically located in Odisha, is expected to generate over 2,000 employment opportunities during its operational phase, Sembcorp said.
