An Indian-origin lawyer in the UK has been disbarred from practising law after getting convicted of harassing his ex-girlfriend last year.
Sanjay Roy was convicted at the Northampton Crown Court in July last year and was suspended for 18 months after pleading guilty to harassing his former girlfriend.
According to reports, the Bar Standards Board had suspended the lawyer immediately, but recently even the Board decided to ban him from practising as a family law barrister.
A spokesperson for the board said, "This behaviour is likely to diminish the confidence the public has in Mr Roy and the barrister profession in general."behaviour is likely to diminish the confidence the public has in Mr Roy and the barrister profession in general."
The 32-year-old lawyer reportedly beat his former girlfriend, Bibi Taylor Wilcott and also wanted her to have an abortion.
