India kept their winning streak going with an all-round performance to beat Afghanistan by 47 runs in a Super 8 stage match of the ongoing T20 World Cup on Friday.
This was India’s first match in the West Indies leg of the tournament — which is co-hosted by the USA — after dominating the group stage show in the US, where the Men In Blue remained unbeaten.
After posting a competitive 181 runs for the loss of eight wickets, Indian bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah, bowled out the opposition team for 134.
Bumrah and young pacer Arshdeep Singh picked up three wickets each, while Kuldeep Yadav, playing his maiden game in the showpiece event, scalped two to keep the Afghans at bay.
The remaining two wickets were shared by Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja.
Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai remained the top scorer for the side with his 26.
Najibullah Zadran (19), Mohammad Nabi (14) and Gulbadin Naib (17) could not convert the start they got in the match.
Earlier, riding on Suryakumar Yadav’s knock of 53 runs, India posted 181 on the scorecard.
Skipper Rohit Sharma failed to contribute with the willow as he was dismissed for eight.
Virat Kohli (24), Hardik Pandya (32) and Rishabh Pant (20) were major contributors for the team.
For Afghanistan, captain Rashid Khan, and Fazalhaq Farooqi, managed to pick three wickets each.
