Indian American Rajeev Ram, doubles partner Krajicek stun Alcaraz-Nadal at Paris Olympics

Indian American tennis player and former world number one Rajeev Ram and his doubles partner Austin Krajicek caused a massive upset as they defeated Spain’s Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter final match at the Roland Garros. Nadal, who had won 14 grand slams at the iconic venue, had a forgetful possible last match at the French clay court.

The Americans defeated the Spaniards in straight sets, taking the game 6-2, 6-4.

Nadal and Alcaraz were the pre-tournament favourites owing to the former’s dominance at clay courts and the latter’s current form, which saw his resist Novak Djokovic to retain his trophy at the Wimbledon.

The American started strong and kept hold on the game, taking advantage of a tired Alcaraz, who on the same day had played a singles match against Roman Safiullin.

Ram and Krajicek will next face the Czech duo of Adam Pavlsek and Thomas Machac on Saturday.
