Indian Confluence’s Food Festival: Serving desi culture on a plate to Belgians and Diaspora alike

It is often said that the way to somebody’s heart is through their stomach. Implementing the philosophy, Indian Confluence, a Brussels-based platform celebrating Indian culture, is organising its eighth food festival, to bring together not only the Indian diaspora, but locals in Belgium as well.

The Brussels Indian Food Festival will take place from August 17 to 18 at the Parc du Cinquantenaire (Jubel Park) in the national capital. Apart from the delectables, the gathering will also have live music and performances. The Brussels Bollywood Choir will be one such act, who will perform on the opening day on August 17.

Ahead of the start of the mega gathering, Connected to India’s Himanshu Verma caught up with Sreeman Bommisetty, Founder – Indian Confluence and Rahul Venkat, the founder of Brussels Bollywood Choir. The musician was joined by fellow members Supratik, Meghna and Sven, who regaled us with snippets from their upcoming performance.

Sreeman said a lot of preparation is going on to make the event better and bigger. “…expectations are set high. So, we are trying to bring something new,” He said, adding, “more in the food varieties, also in terms of culture.”

The Indian Confluence founder said his team will add more food options for vegetarians and will introduce vegan food for the first time in the food festival’s history.

Speaking about her experience, Meghna, who moved to Belgium six years ago, shared that the festival provided her with the perfect platform to introduce her culture to the locals.

The choir also gave us a glimpse of their song, Brussels Meri Jaan, which is a French-Hindi song composed by the team.
