Indian Embassy of Oman has galvanised into action, urging the NRIs living in the country to enroll as overseas voters so that they can participate in the 2019 general elections.
“In view of the increasing interest among Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in Oman to participate in the political process in India, the Embassy of India would like to encourage NRIs in Oman to enroll as NRI voters to become a part of the election process in India,” said a press note issued by Indian Embassy of Oman.
The Indian government has allowed the NRIs to participate in the electoral process of India through proxy voting, but the precise modalities have not been prepared yet. The huge NRI community spread across different countries of the world have welcomed the decision of the government.
