The Indian mission in UAE is facilitating 3.4 million coronavirus-hit Indian expats, lending a helping hand to many of them with accommodation, food, medicines and counselling.
Together with the Department of Health, UAE, the Indian Embassy is enabling alternative accommodation for COVID-19 positive expats who are living in clustered shared accommodations.
Indian Ambassador to the UAE Pavan Kapoor said that this is in order to control the spread of the disease.
Tweeting Indian nationals in the UAE, the ambassador requested them to send their queries or alternatively their contact details for COVID-19 related medical counselling.
“Together we will overcome!” said their tweet headline as embassy officials provided another round of food provisions to Indian workers at a labour camp in Abu Dhabi.
Indian expats in the UAE can avail of medical services of Indian doctors by writing to ca.abudhabi@mea.gov.in. or calling their 24/7 helpline 0508995583 in case of emergencies.
The embassy has been taking care of expats, especially bachelors who are in quarantine or isolation who don't have access to food, in the form of cooked food or kits to prepare food.
Reacting to fake news, India’s Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs, Civil Aviation & MoS Commerce & Industry, Hardeep Singh Puri clarified that no decision has been taken to open domestic or international operations.
He advised the Indian consul in UAE to start bookings for repatriation flights only after the Indian government eases travel restrictions.
Ambassador Kapoor assured that the mission would work with the UAE authorities to ensure smooth travel as well as to prioritise where necessary.
India is also helping UAE through the export of 30 million HCQ tablets, some of the medicine has arrived in Dubai.
Meanwhile UAE has reported 479 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of cases to 6781.
