In a tragic incident, an Indian-origin man allegedly stabbed to death his wife in Singapore.
Krishnan Raju, aged 50, has been charged in the State Court with causing the death of 44-year-old Raithena Vaithena Samy at a condominium in Jalan Loyang Besar area of Singapore. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
The man was arrested 10 hours after the incident as he surrendered himself to the police at the Woodlands Checkpoint. He reportedly entered Malaysia before returning to Singapore. The man owns a transport company.
The woman, found in the bedroom of the apartment unit with a knife beside her, had suffered multiple stab wounds, including one in the chest.
Krishnan, who appeared emotionless as the charge was read out to him, has been remanded at the Central Police Division, with permission to be taken out for investigation. He will be back in the court on November 3.
Meanwhile, a neighbour of the victim, living two block away, said that he frequently heard shouting coming from the block where the couple's unit is located and said it started about two years ago.
He said, “I could tell that it's a couple quarrelling in English but I don't know what they fight about. It happens every morning and night.”
