An Indian origin Associate Professor at Taylor's University, Malaysia, Dr Aditya Arya has been honoured with the prestigious Hind Rattan Award 2019, which is one of the highest Indian diaspora awards granted annually to non-resident persons of Indian-origin by the NRI Welfare Society of India.
Dr Arya obtained PhD in Pharmacology from University of Malaya and got appointed as a Senior Lecturer of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya in the year 2010. He joined Taylor's University, School of Medicine in 2016.
He is an active researcher who has published 50 over high impact research papers and has had many leadership roles. This include his current role as a project leader of flagship grant under Ageing and Quality of Life, as well as co-researcher with Obesity and Wellbeing program.
He has also been involved in several research projects including high impact research grant (HIR) from the Ministry of Higher Education. He is a Research Fellow to the Malaysian Institute of Pharmaceuticals and Nutraceuticals and National Institutes of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia, since 2015. He is also a scientific advisor and consultant in the health care and pharmaceutical industries as well as new startups.
His research mainly focus on the cellular and molecular pharmacology in the in vitro and in vivo living system (animal models) to identify specific mechanisms that underlie the development of diabetes and obesity leading to cardiovascular dysfunction linking neuroinflammation.
Upon receiving the honor, Dr Aditya said, “I credit my parents for instilling values and teaching me the pathways of life.”
“It is really a proud moment for me to accept the accolades for outstanding services and exemplary contributions in the field of medical and health sciences.” he added.
The Hind Rattan, which means ‘Jewel of India’ in English, is granted at the Society's annual Congress on the eve of India's Republic Day, in conjunction with national Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations.
The award ceremony is attended by senior members of the Government of India and of the Supreme Court of India. The number of awardees varies each year, but is generally about 25 to 30. Criteria for award selection are not published by the Society; award selections are made among the Society leadership and awardees are invited to attend the conference in New Delhi to accept their awards.
The NRI Welfare Society has been operating over the past 37 years, connecting people of Indian origin with their motherland.
