India is aiming to host the most expensive Olympics in the history of the games in 2036, though its bid to stage the grand sporting event is currently at its initial stage.
According to media reports, the twin Gujarati cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar have unveiled an ambitious plan to host the mega-sports event that was last staged in Paris in 2024.
The maximum estimated cost of the event has been put at $7.47 billion (Rs 64,000 crore), reported The Times of India.
If the ambitious move turns into reality, then the 2036 Summer Olympics will surpass the upcoming Los Angeles edition in 2028.
It is projected to be at around $5 billion (Rs 43,633 crore).
Titled ‘Review Meeting – Preparedness towards Amdavad 2036’, the document was presented in Gandhinagar this week during the brainstorming session of the high-level coordination committee for the Olympic bid, the Indian newspaper reported.
The final blueprint, accessed by TOI, reveals estimated costs involved in bringing the sporting spectacle to the twin cities of Gujarat and four other cities- namely Bhopal, Goa, Mumbai and Pune.
