Lakshya Sen, the 22-year-old Indian shuttler, on Friday, created history by becoming the first-ever male badminton player from the country to enter the Olympics semis.
After losing the hard-fought first game 19-21 to Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien-chen, Sen came roaring back, taking the set 21-15. At 1-1, Sen brought out his A-game as he defeated Chou 21-12 in the third game to win the quarter-final match and march to the next round.
Sen had marched into the last 8 after defeating compatriot HS Prannoy in straight sets, 21-12, 21-6, in the Round of 16 match.
He is India’s only remaining hope for a badminton medal from Paris.
