India’s government body has said that the country’s Omicron variant is in the community transmission stage and is spreading exponentially in several metro cities.
The INSACOG, in its January 10 bulletin that was released on Sunday, said while most of the Covid’s Omicron cases so far have been asymptomatic or mild, hospitalisations and ICU cases have jumped in the current wave and the threat level remains unchanged, the Indian Express reported.
India reported 333,533 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the active caseload to 2,187,205. While the daily positivity rate and weekly positivity rate stand at 17.78 per cent and 16.87 per cent respectively, the recovery rate stands at 93.18 per cent.
The number of daily cases is lower than Saturday’s 3.37 lakh cases. However, the daily and weekly positivity rates have risen.
India has administered over 80 lakh doses of the COVID- vaccine's booster dose since January 10, when the campaign to vaccinate the frontline workers, healthcare workers and elderly with a third dose began.
Moreover, 7,110,445 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, taking India's vaccination coverage past 161.92 crore.
In the 15-18 years age group, 4,15,77,103 people have been vaccinated since January 3.
