Hitman Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the ODI and Test series against New Zealand after sustaining a calf injury. Rohit injured himself during the fifth and final T20I against New Zealand on Sunday and had to retire hurt while batting on 60. India went on to win the match and complete a 5-0 whitewash.
“He underwent an MRI scan in Hamilton on Monday. The opening batsman has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI and test series and will be referred to the National Cricket Academy for further management of his injury,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Mayank Agarwal, who made his ODI debut against the West Indies in December last year, was named as Rohit's replacement in the ODI squad, while Shubman Gill replaces him in the Test squad.
India are already without Shikhar Dhawan for the ODI series and Hardik Pandya for the Test series. Meanwhile, skipper Virat Kohli has confirmed a debut for Prithvi Shaw in the first ODI against New Zealand. Shaw came into the side as a replacement for Shikhar Dhawan.
The three-match ODI series against New Zealand starts on Wednesday, February 5 with the two-match Test series scheduled to begin on February 21.
