It seemed that all roads in Singapore led to the Apple Store today as there was excess crowding for the launch of the new iPhone 8 and the larger iPhone 8 Plus. Apple fans queued up right outside the store along the Orchard Road since Thursday night to receive their coveted smartphone.
Many foreigners have also joined the line as Singapore is among the first few markets where the new iPhones are being released.
There were about 80 Apple enthusiasts who stood in line outside the Apple store at Knightsbridge Mall after receiving the green number wristbands. The bands denoted their position in the queue and they were only allowed to leave the line for a maximum of one hour.
The first in line was Amin Ahmed Dholiya, who was at the store since 7pm last night. He says he's still “feeling good”.
Many foreigners were also standing in the queue, such asoai Trinh, a businessman has come all the way from Vietnam to purchase the iphone. He said, “I like the new camera, the all-glass (exterior) and the processor … It's expensive but we like it”, adding that the phone’s price amounts to a month's salary for him.
The craze for the Apple ‘wonder’ was so much for Hoai that he had travelled to Singapore for the fourth time for the iPhone launches plans to make another trip to Singapore when the iPhone X is launched.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus offer more modest improvements over their predecessors and come in silver, space grey and gold in 64GB and 256GB models. The prices for the coveted model start from SGD1,148 for the iPhone 8 and SGD1,308 for the iPhone 8 Plus.
