The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) today said that it was striking "the area in Lebanon" in response to fire from the area, just hours after it reported attacks from Hamas.
"IDF Artillery is currently striking the area in Lebanon from where a shooting was carried out," the Tzahal said on Telegram, adding that it "has been taking preparational measures for this type of possibility and will continue to operate in all regions and at any time necessary to ensure the safety of the Israeli civilians."
Lebanese broadcaster Al Mayadeen reported that the village of Kfarchouba was subject to Israel's fire in southern Lebanon.
The IDF also said it has hit "two banks belonging to the Hamas terrorist organisation for terror funds, among them the Islamic National Bank which serves the organization by financing terrorist activity, and the First Bank belonging to the organisation."
The IDF also struck an aerial weapons production site used by the Islamic Jihad movement in the city of Gaza and a building, used for storing weapons and military equipment.
The IDF added that it has struck the Hamas movement's intelligence headquarters and a military compound in the Gaza Strip.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to avenge what he said was a "black day" for Israel, saying the army will strike back at Hamas in Gaza with full force.
"The IDF (army) is about to use all its force to destroy Hamas's capabilities. We'll strike them to the bitter end and avenge with force this black day they brought on Israel and its people," he said.
Israel was hit by an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning. The Israeli army said Hamas fired more than 3,000 rockets, adding that dozens of Hamas troops infiltrated border areas in southern Israel.
The Israeli military has since sent troops to the southern territories to reconquer them from the Palestinian forces.
Israeli media reported earlier in the day that over 300 people were killed and more than 1,500 others were injured in Israel as a result of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. At the same time, the Palestinian Health Ministry said that more than 195 people have been killed and over 1,600 injured in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
