JY Pillay has been once again sworn in as the chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers (CPA) in a simple ceremony organised at the Presidential abode Istana in Singapore. The ceremony was witnessed by President Halimah Yacob, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon.
Pillay was reappointed following the start a new Presidential term earlier this month as Halimah Yacob became President of the country. He has been the chairman of CPA since 2005.
Being the chairman of the CPA, he stands in for Madam Halimah Yacob as the Acting President when required.
The CPA also provides advice to the President before she exercises her discretionary powers on fiscal matters related to Singapore’s past reserves and the appointment of key public office holders.
In a Facebook post, President Halimah Yacob congratulated Pillay and said, “Today, I witnessed Mr J Y Pillay being sworn in as Chairman of the CPA. I look forward to working closely with Mr Pillay and the CPA to safeguard our nation's past reserves and the integrity of our public service.”
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong wrote on Facebook that he witnessed the swearing in.
"I’m confident that he will continue to carry out his roles ably. I wish him the very best," Mr Lee said.
Others present at the appointment and swearing-in ceremony were Pillay's wife Beatrice and members of the CPA.
Pillay has been permanent secretary for finance, https://www.connectedtoindia.com/tag/singapore-airlinesdefence and national development, and chairman of Singapore Airlines, DBS Bank and Singapore Exchange. He has also been managing director of GIC and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
