A Kolkata court on Friday granted bail to the tainted former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh and former officer-in-charge of Tala police station Abhijit Mondal in connection with the rape and murder of an on-duty female junior doctor in the medical institute.

The court granted them bail after CBI failed to submit a chargesheet within the 90 days period.

The bail was granted to them on conditions of surety bond of INR 2,000 (USD 23.58) each. They have been directed to appear before the CBI as and when called.

Mondal was accused of delaying in filing the FIR in the rape and murder of the doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata in August, an episode which triggered massive protests across the East Indian state, which then spread to various parts in India.

Ghosh was accused of tampering with evidence in the case.

Ghosh, however, will remain in judicial custody since he is also booked in a case related to financial irregularities.

Before Mondal and Ghosh, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested in connection with the case.
