Legendary Indian music composer Mohammed Zahur Khayyam Hashmi, popularly known as Khayyam, died in a Mumbai hospital on Monday at the age of 92. He died after suffering from a lung ailment for which he had been hospitalised some days ago and is survived by his singer wife Jagjit Kaur.
Known for his music in films such as Kabhi Kabhie and Umrao Jaan, Khayyam started his music career at the age of 17. Amongst his long list of achievements was a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Padma Bhushan, a National Award and numerous Filmfare Awards.
He was also known for his music in Bollywood films such as Trishul, Noorie and Shola Aur Shabnam.
