Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association or LISHA as it commonly known is all set to make ‘Little India’ even brighter as it kick-starts its Deepavali celebrations starting this weekend September 2.
Bunch of activities planned this year include a street parade, painting workshops, flower garland making workshops, street light-up and much more. All this is coming to brighten the festive season of Deepavali.
With the most diverse range of commercial, heritage, religious and cultural bodies, the organisation plays a significant role in Little India by organising and refining annual Indian festivities.
Dipped in a musical potpourri of cultural performances and workshops by local and international artists, the Deepavali festival will immerse in the rhythm of music, dance, lights and beautiful street floats. Listed below are the events you can look forward to cherishing the festivities of Deepavali.
UTSAV Street Parade
Magnificently lit up along Serangoon Road and Race Course Road, Little Indian will be transformed into a grand royal of the kingdom.
From September 2 to November 12, at 7pm to12am.
Deepavali Light-Up Ceremony
Marvel at the spectacular display of the radiant street light around Singapore. From September 2 to 15, at 7pm.
Tanjore Painting Workshops
Known for their rich colour, surface richness and compact composition, Tanjore paintings are adorned with rich semiprecious stones, glass pieces and gold that add colour to the surrounding. Experience the art of India in Singapore.
From September 23 to 30 and on October 1, 7 and 8.
Flower Garland making workshop
Flower Garland has been a part of the Indian culture for centuries. Come on board to learn this art.
From September 26 to 29, at 2pm.
Rangoli Workshop
An art form from India created on floors using materials such as dry flour, coloured sand, coloured rice or flower petals. Rangoli is usually made on Deepavali, Pongal including other Indian festivals.
From October 3 to 6, at 2pm.
Indian Folk Percussion Instrumental Experience
The beauty of sounds and rhythms can’t be compensated with anything else. Mesmerize the senses by musical instruments.
