India and Malaysia have signed nine memorandum of understanding (MoUs) during PM Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to New Delhi on Tuesday. Following the bilateral meeting between Ibrahim and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, 10 announcements related to both nations were also made.
Indian official Randhir Jaiswal said wide-ranging talks were held between Modi and Ibrahim to further intensify the multi-dimensional relationship.
“The leaders agreed to elevate – relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Discussions covered various areas of bilateral cooperation including trade & investment, defence, new & emerging technologies, cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties,” Jaiswal posted on X.
Jaiswal said the leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues, including cooperation in ASEAN and Global South.
This was the first visit of Ibrahim as the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
India and Malaysia have strong historical and socio-cultural linkages. The bilateral relationship was elevated to the status of Enhanced Strategic Partnership in 2015 during the visit of Prime Minister Modi.
As both countries enter the second decade of Enhanced Strategic Partnership next year, the visit of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim would pave the way for further strengthening of India-Malaysia bilateral ties by charting out a multi-sectoral cooperation agenda for the future.
