Inspired by the journeys undertaken by the forefathers, dance-theatre production Marabu – The First Ripple traces the passage and legacy of the Indian community in the Southeast Asian region.
Created specially for Kalaa Utsavam 2019, Marabu – The First Ripple features performers from Bhaskar’s Arts Academy, Suvarna Fine Arts (Malaysia), Avant Theatre and Gamelan Singamurti.
The historical fiction will be presented as a trilogy and is a collaborative piece by veteran artist and Cultural Medallion recipient Santha Bhaskar, who has teamed up with co-choreographer Ajith Bhaskar and theatre director G Selva.
“This three-phase production is another big milestone for Bhaskar’s Arts Academy,” shared Mrs Bhaskar.
In a special interview with Connected to India, Mrs Bhaskar shares some insights from her creative process, her thoughts on traditional arts past and present, as well as the role Kalaa Utsavam plays in the Indian arts scene in Singapore.
