MAS unveils Year of the Boar coins in Singapore

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today unveiled the 2019 Year of the Boar Almanac coins, the third issue in the Singapore Fourth Chinese Almanac Coin Series.

“The coins will be issued on January 1, 2019,” said MAS in a press release issued today.

The coins will feature an image of a pig and the island of Pulau Ubin in the background.

The limited-edition coins are part of the third issue in the Singapore Fourth Chinese Almanac Coin Series.  The series is issued over a span of 12 years, from 2017 to 2028. Each year’s issue depicts a zodiac animal in a park or natural landscape setting in Singapore.

The coins will be available in 10 different versions, comprising various metallic compositions, minting relief effects and shapes. Special premium sets consisting of various coin combinations will also be available.

They include a 1kg rectangular coin made from 999 fine silver with a face value of SGD80 and a premium gold and silver three-coin set.

The obverse side of the coins will bear the Singapore Coat of Arms with the year 2019.

“Orders must reach The Singapore Mint by December 16, 2018. The coins will be subjected to balloting if oversubscribed,” said MAS in the press release.
