The Indian Heritage Centre’s CultureFest 2020 kicked off with its first-ever digital launch on September 5 followed by an eclectic line-up of programmes revolving around the epic Indian literary work – The Ramayana.
The festival continued its celebration of daily cultural showcases on Wednesday with Ramayana Retold: The Wedding – A Bollywood Dance by Joyful Dancers Production.
The epic Ramayana has been taken as a reference point in many forms of popular culture including commercial songs, lyrics, plot themes as well as picturisations in films.
This multi-ethnic Bollywood dance, set to a song from the Hindi movie Kalank, depicts Sita longing for and awaiting Rama’s return to the kingdom of Ayodhya and the ensuing celebrations.
Local arts group Joyful Dancers Production presented the Bollywood-inspired celebratory dance item at Singapore’s iconic Raffles Hotel, which was broadcast to audiences via Indian Heritage Centre’s Facebook page.
The multi-racial ethnic group’s performance is inspired by the epic wedding of Sita and Rama.
