A legend in the world of Indian classical dance, T Balasaraswati’s entire life was in service to the art of Bharatanatyam.
A celebrated dance legend and outstanding Carnatic vocalist, Balasaraswati helped popularise Bharatanatyam in different parts of India and around the world.
In a maiden exhibition titled ‘Credo of a Dancer’, the Museum of Performing Arts (MOPA) Foundation from Chennai tells the inspiring life story of Balasaraswati. Organised as part of Dance India Asia Pacific 2019, the exhibition was held in collaboration with the Balasaraswati Institute of Performing Arts.
“MOPA is a culture immersion centre, an archiving space where information can be digitised, to bring about a greater understanding of South Asian arts to the world,” said Savita Narasimhan, founder of MOPA.
Connected to India speaks to Savita about ‘Credo of a Dancer’, her aspirations for MOPA and South Asian arts, as well as her connection to the Indian arts scene in Singapore.
