Fibre broadband company MyRepublic has partnered local telecommunications firm Starhub to offer mobile services in Singapore.
The Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) partnership will enable MyRepublic to utilise StarHub’s mobile network infrastructure, according to a press statement released on Thursday, May 3.
MyRepublic had first announced its intentions to launch mobile services in 2015. Later that year, it attracted over 50,000 registrations of interest for the MyRepublic HetNet Mobility Trial in Jurong.
“We made a promise and we want to stand by that promise,” said Malcolm Rodrigues, MyRepublic CEO. “We promised that MyRepublic would bring a better kind of mobile service to Singapore, and we believe we can still do that. And we definitely want to thank our friends and supporters for believing in us.”
"Beyond having an excellent mobile network, it’s important we work with an MNO partner that’s well-aligned with us in terms of strategy," says Yap Yong Teck, Managing Director of MyRepublic Singapore. He added that the company has resonated with Singapore’s younger, more tech-savvy crowd – which is also the market segment where they will continue with focus on with the upcoming mobility services.
“We are pleased that MyRepublic has chosen StarHub to be its MNO partner, marking our foray into the MVNO business," said Howie Lau, Chief Marketing Officer of StarHub. "With this partnership comes the ability for us to offer customers more choices, better address customer segment needs and grow our mobile business amid the evolving landscape.”
MyRepublic expects to launch mobile services in Singapore very soon, with details on its plans and bundles to come.
