NaMo app launches ‘Jan Man Survey’, a unique effort to compile a report card on MPs’ performance

Ahead of the 2024 general elections in India, the ‘NaMo’ app (named after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi) has launched the ‘Jan Man Survey’. This is a unique initiative — ‘Jan Man’ translates to ‘Mind of the People’ — to ascertain people’s thoughts about their local Member of Parliament.

Launched yesterday on the NaMo app, this survey would compile a report card on the performance of the MPs. Feedback of the Jan Man Survey respondents would also help the government gauge the public mood.

The Jan Man Survey seeks people’s response on various aspects of governance and leadership; its questions include both central-level development and specifics related to the user’s constituency.

Sources in the ruling BJP said that this was an innovative survey that aimed to tap into ‘jan man’ (the common man’s mind) through an “interesting and gamified” interface.

Prime Minister Modi always championed the use of technology to reach out to people, added the party sources.

Each citizen matters in democratic process

The new survey also enables citizens to identify other popular leaders — besides the incumbent Member of Parliament — in their respective constituencies. The ruling party feels that this participatory process would empower individuals to express their opinions, underscoring the importance of each citizen’s perspective in the democratic process.

“One of the key highlights of the survey is its user-friendly interface and concise questions that delve into crucial areas, such as the impact of government schemes and projects that excite respondents the most,” said a BJP leader.
