PM Narendra Modi attends crucial meetings on Cyclone Remal, heatwave amid exit polls predicting BJP’s thumping victory in general polls
A day after the seven-phased Indian general polls ended and the major exit polls predicting the return of the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party to power for the third straight term, PM Narendra Modi on Sunday (June 2, 2024) reviewed the impact of Cyclone Remal at his residence in New Delhi.
The PM was briefed about the impact of the cyclone on the affected states during the meeting.
The loss of human lives and damage to houses and properties due to landslides and floods in Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura was also discussed.
NDRF teams have been deployed as per the needs.
The teams have carried out evacuation, airlifting and road clearance operations.
“During the meeting, it was mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs is in regular touch with the State Governments,” read the Indian government-released statement.
Modi said that the Government of India will continue to extend full support to the State affected by cyclone.
The PM also instructed the Ministry of Home Affairs to monitor the situation and review the matter regularly to extend necessary assistance for restoration.
He also chaired a meeting to review the situation of the ongoing heat wave in India and the preparedness for the onset of monsoon at his residence.
“Prime Minister was briefed that as per IMD forecasts, the heat wave is likely to continue in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh,” read the government statement.
Prime Minister has instructed that proper drills for preventing and handling incidents of fire must be done on a regular basis.
He also said that regular drills for the maintenance of fire-line in forests and productive utilization of the biomass must be planned.
Voting for the 543-member Lok Sabha and the Assembly elections in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh concluded on Saturday, following a seven-phase election process.
Modi and his BJP are aiming to return to power in the country for the third straight term, a rare event in Indian politics.
