The National Day Parade (NDP) funpack to be given to the spectators this year will be the lightest one ever, weighing just 1.5 kg. Each item in the funpack will incorporate more functionalities. The clap banner can also be used as a fan while the Singapore flag can also act as a LED light.
Revealing the funpack at a press briefing today, Major Ang Kian Hoe, deputy chairman of the NDP’s logistics and finance committee, said, “There are fewer items in the funpack because we tried to reduce the weight of the pack. We also tried to incorporate many functionalities into each item… We learned from past experiences that spectators who go to the show have to wave the flag in one hand and another interactive item in the other, and won’t have a third hand to take photos. We tried to make it more convenient.”
This year, the funpack comes in two colours – red or white. It will be filled with snacks, water, tissues, discount booklet, face tattoos, luggage tag and NS50 commemorative keychain that comes in five designs. The water-resistant bag is made of polyester satin and has a detachable pouch.
The funpack has been designed by two Lasalle College of the Arts students, Riche Tay and Denise Richter, and picked from 60 submissions. The duo spent about a month working on the design.
Tay said, “We researched upcoming trends for bags and wanted to make it trendy. The bag comes with a roll-up part to make it compact and user-friendly.”
NDP Show will be organised at Marina Bay Floating Platform this year. Spectators will have to collect their funpacks at designated collection points.
