At least three people died after a man went on a stabbing spree across the Manhattan region of New York in broad daylight on Monday.

The victims include a young construction worker, a woman and an elderly man.

The third victim of the attacker, a 36-year-old woman, has died of her injuries as the suspect confessed to the random killings and was slapped with murder charges, police and sources told The New York Post.

She reportedly died in the hospital where she was undergoing treatment.

The other two victims are a 26-year-old construction worker and a  68-year-old man.

Police did not reveal the identities of the victims so far.

Suspect arrested

Police have arrested the suspect who was identified as 51-year-old Ramon Rivera.

Rivera, a homeless man with an extensive criminal record and reported mental health ailments, allegedly confessed to the unprovoked stabbings that began in the morning and crossed the width of the borough from Chelsea to the East River, sources told The New York Post.

The suspect has been charged with three counts of murder.

Police called the killings random and unprovoked.

“As of right now, these attacks seem to be unprovoked, that he just walked up to them and began to attack them with the knives,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
