Starting next week, UAE’s public schools that follow the Ministry of Education (MOE) curriculum will eliminate homework and implement measures to ensure optimal utilisation of a student's time.
The UAE MOE announced the launch of the "My Optimum Time" initiative earlier this week which is intended to accommodate students’ lessons as well as create more time for student club activities.
The initiative includes merging two continuous sessions without a break, for a 90-minute session in Arabic, English, mathematics, science, design and technology subjects, said a statement from the ministry.
Each 90-minute session will include five minutes for mental stimulation, 50 minutes for applying the lesson skills, and the rest of the time will be divided into various activities.
School timings will remain as usual as the initiative is implemented across 256 government schools, including 23 schools in Dubai and 233 schools in Abu Dhabi with effect from February 16. The initiative will also open up evening learning centres for teachers, where students will get the opportunity to benefit from resources for a longer period of time each day.
The initiative hopes to strike a balance between the student's academic and family life, which is an essential part of his/her personal growth and development.
