Om Puri passes away, Narendra Modi, Bollywood celebs pay tribute on Twitter

Indian cinema has lost one of its finest actors – Om Puri. The actor passed away after a massive heart attack early on Friday morning. He was 66.

Om Puri's closest friend Ashok Pandit confirmed the news on Twitter; "Sad & shocked to know that versatile actor Om Puri jee has expired due to a heart attack early morning today. #RIP."

Besides working in Indian cinema, Om Puri had worked in Pakistani, British and Hollywood films.

The actor's body is at his residence in Andheri, Mumbai and his friends from the industry are arriving to pay their last respects.

An alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India as well as National School of Drama, Om Puri was regarded as a method actor. Apart from working in Indian cinema, he worked in Pakistani, British and Hollywood films like – 'The Jewel in the Crown' (1984), 'Wolf Dr. Vijay Alezias' (1994), 'East Is East' (1999), 'Second Generation' (2003), 'Code 46' (2003), 'West Is West' (2010). He was working on an English film 'Viceroy's House' and 'Actor In Law'.

His one of the most acclaimed films are 'Bhavni Bhavai' (1980), 'Sadgati' (1981), 'Ardh Satya' (1982), 'Mirch Masala' (1986) and 'Dharavi' (1992).
