Our Tampines Hub has won the only Platinum Award at this year's Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Universal Design Mark Award. The space is also Singapore’s first integrated community and lifestyle centre.
The accolade recognises building designs that emphasise people's needs, according to BCA.
BCA Universal Design Mark Award also honoured 36 other building projects on Monday, April 22, including seven public sector projects which won the Gold Plus Award.
In a statement , BCA said Our Tampines Hub stood out among the rest to clinch the Platinum Award as it offers a comprehensive and diverse range of services and activities for people from all walks of life to interact and bond.
Designed by home-grown firm DP Architects and launched in 2017, the centre features wide range of facilities catering people of all generations and needs. The facilities are spread out across the centre in clusters, thereby promoting interaction among different groups of people. This would also allow the service providers in the centre to explore fresh ways to collaborate. An indoor playground, for instance, located next to the children's book section of the Tampines Regional Library.
Moreover, the centre is "seamlessly connected" to the surrounding residential developments with covered, accessible foot paths, and bicycle parking provisions. There is also a one-stop public service centre, allowing residents to engage the services of various government agencies, including the Housing Board and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
BCA noted in the press release that all 37 winners at its Universal Design Mark Award were exemplary in demonstrating how buildings can be designed to not only put place needs of communities and people first, as well as foster inclusiveness and engagement.
