Paris Paralympics: Indian shot putter Sachin Khilari wins silver in men’s F46 event

India’s Paralympics medal tally rose to 21 as shot putter Sachin Khilari won the silver medal in the men’s F46 event. His 16.32m throw also set a new Asian record on Wednesday, September 4.

Canada’s Greg Stewart won the gold with a 16.38m throw.

Khilari’s compatriots Mohammad Yasser (14.21m) and Rohit Kumar (14.10m) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

Born into a farming family in Maharashtra, Khilari suffered an injury to his left hand at school that left him disabled.

He took para sports in 2015 and competed in the national games in Jaipur in 2017. He become a full-time athlete in 2019.

Apart from sports, Khilari has achieved success as a mechanical engineer.

India now has two more medals than it had at the Tokyo Para Games in 2021.
