Indian discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya has won the silver medal in the Men’s Discus Throw – F56 event at the Paris Paralympics on Monday.
Kathuniya, recorded his best performance of the season with a 42.22m throw. Earlier in May, he had won the silver medal in the F56 category at the World Para-Athletics Championships.
Brazil’s Claudiney Batista dos Santos won the gold with a 46.86m throw.
The bronze medal was won by Konstantinos Tzounis of Greece, who threw the discus 41.32m.
The Indian athlete recorded his best throw in his first attempt. There after he recorded throws of 41.50m, 41.55m, 40.33m, 40.89m and 39.68m respectively, as per reports.
He had also won the silver in Tokyo 2020, where he threw 44.38m. Interestingly, Santos had grabbed the gold medal in that event as well.
Kathuniya suffers from a rare neurological condition called Guillain-Barre syndrome. He was nine years old when he was diagnosed and took up para sports in 2017 while in college.
With Kathuniya’s silver win, India now has eighth medal at the Paralympics in Paris.
