The Ministry of Education (MOE) will be providing additional financial support for eligible Singaporeans enrolled in MOE-subsidised part-time undergraduate and diploma courses.
They will benefit from enhancements to the MOE Bursary from Academic Year 2020 (AY2020), MOE said in a press statement.
This is part of the ministry’s efforts to enhance the affordability of higher education for part-time students studying at publicly-funded Post-Secondary Education Institutions (PSEIs). About 2,100 Singaporean part-time undergraduates and diploma students are expected to benefit from the bursary enhancements.
In addition, the eligible students will benefit from an increase in the annual bursary quanta to help defray their cost of continuing education.
Part-time undergraduates from lower income households who qualify for the highest bursary tier will receive SGD 2,500 annually instead of SGD 1,350. Meanwhile, part-time diploma students from lower income households who qualify for the highest bursary tier will receive SGD 800 annually instead of SGD 600.
MOE also added that from next year onwards, the MOE Bursary will be renamed the Higher Education Bursary to better reflect its intended purpose.
