The ICC Champions Trophy is facing uncertainty and triggered a debate between the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Board of Control for Cricket in India over the issue of participation.
With BCCI planning not to participate in the event after not receiving any clearance from the Indian government, the Pakistan Cricket Board has announced that it will not support any hybrid model for the signature tournament.
During the Asia Cup, Pakistan had decided to host the event in a hybrid model format where India played its matches in Sri Lanka.
The event was hosted by Pakistan.
If Pakistan continues its tough stand and the Champions Trophy gets hit then the board may face sanctions from ICC.
Moving or postponing the Champions Trophy would mean losing out on potentially USD 65 million as hosting fees, substantial money for the PCB, reported Cricbuzz.
This may leave the Pakistan Cricket Board in financial trouble since it upgraded three stadiums in recent times for the Champions Trophy.
Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore have been earmarked to host the tournament next year.
India and Pakistan last played a bilateral tournament in 2012-13.
The two countries have only faced each other in ICC events.
