Narendra Modi on Wednesday (March 21, 2024) interacted with Russian and Ukrainian Presidents, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, respectively, in separate phone calls. The two leaders invited the Indian PM to visit their nations amid the ongoing conflict, media reports said.
The separate telephonic conversations that Modi had with the two leaders are being seen as a fresh affirmation of how PM Modi is being seen as a peacemaker between the countries that are locked in a protracted military conflict, sources told ANI.
Modi congratulates Vladimir Putin over Russian Presidential election victory
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin and congratulated him on his re-election as the President of the Russian Federation for the fifth term.
During the telephone conversation, both leaders discussed bilateral cooperation and other global issues.
“We agreed to work together to further deepen and expand the India-Russia Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership in the years ahead. @KremlinRussia,” PM Modi wrote on X.
They also reviewed progress on various global issues including the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
PM Modi also reiterated India’s consistent stand in favour of dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward, as per a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, 71, won the recent Presidential elections by securing 87.97 percent of the votes.

Prime Minister Modi also spoke to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and conveyed India’s consistent support for all efforts for peace and bringing an early end to the ongoing conflict.”
