There will be more environmentally-friendly buildings, more underground tunnel systems, a network of driverless cars with dedicated lanes, airports with automated check-ins, biometric gates and laser powered security scanners at the airports. These are the predictions of engineering experts of Atkins regarding the dream city Dubai in the coming 50 years.
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of its presence in the Middle East, 126 employees of Atkins made their forecasts regarding Dubai’s future. 61 per cent believe that all buildings will be environmentally-friendly/sustainable, there will be more community-based living (49 per cent) and more uniquely designed buildings in the future (44 per cent).
Dubai will also see marked tech innovations in the infrastructure including extensions to existing metros and increases in their speed, more underground tunnel systems, and a network of driverless cars with dedicated lanes – and there is also a prediction for more low level buildings than skyscrapers (19 per cent).
Shedding light on the future properties in Dubai, experts said the region is more likely to use smart technology and designs inspired by the natural world along with commonplace living walls and rooftop gardens.
New technologies will emerge in the aviation sector whereby there will be automated check-ins (94 per cent), biometric gates (90 per cent) and laser powered security scanners (90 per cent).
