Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha yesterday inaugurated an online booking facility for the passenger ropeway from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan to the Bhaironji Temple for the convenience of visiting pilgrims, according to an official.

The inauguration of the online booking facility for the passenger ropeway was conducted at Raj Bhavan in Jammu. The event was attended, among others, by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Chief Executive Officer Anshul Garg; the Board members; and Padma Shri Professor Vishwamurti Shastri, said the official.

The spokesperson said that the lieutenant governor (LG) reiterated the shrine Board’s commitment to providing better facilities and modern amenities to make the pilgrimage hassle-free.

The passenger ropeway tickets, which were earlier available only offline at the counters on a “first come, first served” basis, are now available on the portal www.maavaishnodevi.org, he added.

Initially, the ceiling for online sales is 2,000 tickets per day for the pilgrims; the number of tickets issued online would be scaled up gradually in the coming months.

Online ticket sales would not only help the pilgrims but would also reduce the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board’s annual expenditure, added the spokesperson.

According to the official, the Vaishno Devi Bhawan-Bhaironji Temple passenger ropeway has a carrying capacity of 800 persons per hour, and it remains operational for 8 to 10 hours in a day.
