Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Wayanad on Saturday to take stock of the situation following landslides which killed at least 400 people.

Modi will review the relief and rehabilitation measures taken in the region. The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Kannur at approximately 11 AM, from where he will undertake an aerial survey of the landslide-affected areas in Wayanad, reported Business Today.

He is expected to visit a hospital and interact with victims of the tragedy.

Indian Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi appreciated Modi’s decision to visit Wayanad.

“Thank you, Modi ji, for visiting Wayanad to personally take stock of the terrible tragedy. This is a good decision,” Rahul Gandhi wrote on X.

Rahul Gandhi — who won from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in the 2024 general elections, but later vacated it and chose Rae Bareli — hopes the PM will declare the situation a national disaster following the inspection.

“I am confident that once the Prime Minister sees the extent of the devastation firsthand, he will declare it a national disaster,” he said.

What happened in Wayanad?
