After playing the role of Olympic champion Mary Kom, Priyanka Chopra is all set to play the role of Kalpana Chawla, the first Indian woman astronaut in space.
The Quantico star confirmed she will be playing the role of late astronaut Kalpana Chawla in a biopic on the Indian-American astronaut.
Priyanka’s team has been actively involved in the pre-production work of the film that is being directed by debutante Priya Mishra, according to reports. The script has also reportedly been locked and a new production company will be bankrolling the film.
This will be Chopra's first Hindi film after Prakash Jha's cop drama Jai Gangaajal last year. Also, this will be her second biopic after Omung Kumar's 2014 sports drama Mary Kom.
As per the reports, Priyanka showed a keen interest in producing the film under her new banner Purple Pebble Pictures. However, now it has been confirmed that it will be bankrolled by Getway, a new production house.
The movie is a biopic of Kalpana Chawla, a girl who hailed from Karnal, Haryana, and flew into space on the shuttle Columbia in 1997. She died on her second expedition along with six other crew members in 2003 in a space shuttle disaster. She had spent 31 days, 14 hours and 54 minutes in space.
